Magnificat

Reminiscent of the English choral tradition of Ralph Vaughan Williams and Herbert Howells, this anthem, scored for organ and SATB choir, uses modal harmonic language and sparing use of mixed meter to artfully set this familiar text. The dramatic trajectory builds from a piano soprano solo at the beginning to a full choral exultation in the closing Doxology. Wide-ranging vocal tessitura, some divisi throughout, and independent writing for all four voices will provide a satisfying challenge to more advanced choirs.
