Born in Cuba, †Rogelio Zelada (1944-2023) studied philosophy and theology in the seminary of San Carlos y San Ambrosio in Havana and in the Instituto Superior de Teología y Pastoral in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and earned a master's degree in pastoral theology from Barry University in Miami Shores. He worked for many years at the Southeast Pastoral Institute in Miami, the archdiocesan Office of Worship, before serving as associate director for Hispanic formation at the Office of Lay Ministry. Rogelio was a professor at St. John Vianney College Seminary in the Archdiocese of Miami, at the South East Pastoral Institute, as well as Professor of liturgy at the Northeast Institute. Zelada was a member of the U.S. bishops’ Subcommittee on Divine Worship in Spanish and the executive board of the Instituto Nacional Hispano de Liturgia, Inc. Pope Benedict XVI awarded him the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice medal for his long and exceptional service to the Catholic Church.
Rogelio contributed updates and an expanded resource list for Don y Promesa 2nd Edition, the groundbreaking Spanish/English bilingual resource for all who prepare and celebrate marriage liturgies in the Hispanic community. He published numerous articles related to the liturgy for various periodicals.
