Composer of “Here I Am, Lord” and many other beloved songs for worship, Dan hardly needs an introduction. He’s one of the best-known writers of Catholic liturgical music in the English-speaking world.

Bio
"You Are Near," "Here I am, Lord," "These Alone Are Enough" — Dan Schutte's music has been part of the heartbeat for the Church for more than 50 years. Dan's music and writings flow from his knowledge of and deep love for Sacred Scripture, his Ignatian spirituality and his years of ministry. Most weekends, he can be found on the road. For Dan, concerts, retreats, workshops and parish missions are all opportunities to help people connect with the God who loves them and calls them by name. Dan is currently composer-in-residence at the Jesuit University of San Francisco.
Some of Dan's most celebrated songs, such as "City of God" and "Sing a New Song," are from his years of collaboration with the St. Louis Jesuits. In 2015, OCP released the 40th-anniversary edition of Earthen Vessels, the group's best-selling second album.
Dan's popular Mass setting, Mass of Christ the Savior, and most recent collection, Love and Grace, demonstrate an enduring ability to reach into people's hearts, young and old, and draw them into prayer. With the help of fellow composer Jaime Cortez, Dan released a bilingual and Spanish version of that setting, Misa Cristo Salvador.
In addition to his Jesuit formation, Dan holds two master's degrees, one in theology and one in liturgy, from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California. He did graduate studies in music composition at Seattle University and has been awarded four honorary doctoral degrees for his contribution to the life of the Church.
