This gentle adaptation of the text to a popular 16th century tune captures a tender lullaby sung by the Virgin Mary to the infant Jesus. It is written for treble voices giving the text a gentle maternal sound. Like many medieval and renaissance carols that speak of the Virgin, the inclusion of some form of the lullaby word is present. This beautiful setting would make a nice addition to the music sung at Christmas liturgies and carol services.
