Lent is a special opportunity for returning to the Lord, no matter how far we have strayed. Whatever our suffering, whatever our failings, God never gives up on us, as individuals or as a global community. In the words of the first reading on Ash Wednesday, God issues this beautiful, loving invitation: “Return to me with your whole heart” (Joel 2:12). If anyone has trepidation for doing so, the prophet Joel reminds us: “For gracious and merciful is he, slow to anger, rich in kindness, and relenting in punishment” (2:13). Returning means drawing near to and abiding or communing with God. What better way to do that than through the Mass, where we pray, worship God in song, and, most importantly, receive Jesus in the Most Holy Eucharist?

This Lent and Easter, let us all return to the Lord, trusting in his love and mercy. When you do, know that all of us at OCP are walking, praying and singing with and for you.
